The Enneagram

Picture

"You are a marvelous, creative human being who happens to have a personality type." - Pamela Johnson

The Enneagram is a self-assessment tool helping people understand how they conceptualize and navigate both their inner and outer worlds.  It serves as a map highlighting where you are and where you want to go.  As you identify your Enneagram type and your inner world, it enables you to bring more congruency in your life.
  • Profound transformation is fully experienced when you complete the necessary inner work.  This is what separates those who desire profound transformation from those who experience it.
  • We are not our egos.  We have egos.  The Enneagram framework illuminates your personality structure allowing true clarity of your strengths and your weaknesses.
  • Our personality often leaves us feeling constrained.  The Enneagram reminds us to have self-compassion; we are neither broken nor do we need fixing.  Presence is the path to wholeness.
The Withdrawn Cluster (4, 5, 9):  Get needs met by withdrawing to an internal space to sort things out.  Remedy:  "Sustained action is the key to freedom."

Type 4 - "I'm missing something important" is a loop that keeps the type 4 structure looking for it in others or 'out there'.  You have deep resources inside you - claim your gifts and talents.

Type 5 - "I caused the problem" enhances the type 5 structure to believe "that others are better off without me" can leave them feeling isolated.  Reaching out to a trusted source in one area of your life can build a bridge to healthy relationships.

Type 9 - "I go along to get along to keep the peace" the type 9 structure loops in that will result in erasing their wants and needs.  Ask yourself what you want and need daily and then go do those things.

The Dutiful Cluster (1, 2, 6):  Take care of responsibilities before addressing their own needs.  Remedy:  "Access 'Quiet Mind' through Grounded Body."

Type 1 - "I avoid being wrong or bad" leaves the type 1 correcting themselves with high standards.  Allowing yourself the gift of imperfection is the step toward true inner freedom and creates an empowered future.

Type 2 - "I avoid looking selfish" is how the type 2 structure continues to put others needs first and, at the end of the day, has nothing left for themselves.  This leaves one in a continuous loop of feeling depleted.  Taking daily time to self-nourish and honor your inner space will fill your cup so you can truly serve others from a place of wholeness.

Type 6 - "The world is threatening and dangerous" is one of the autopilot patterns of the type 6 structure.  It takes conscious effort to notice this internal experience and turn toward one's "Inner Authority" - the key to transform indecisiveness into clear direction and decisions.

The Initiator Cluster (3, 7, 8):  Go after what they need to get their needs met and reduce anxiety.  Remedy:  "The Heart is the path back home."

Type 3 - "My worthiness comes from my achievements" creates a loop of constant doing to avoid feeling vulnerable for the type 3 structure.  A subtle shift to one's inner world in the midst of the "doing" supports an authenticity and presence in the "doing".

Type 7 - "I'm free to pursue constant happiness" will find the type 7 structure in breaking commitments and often experience their inner space and calendars  completely filled up.  Inner and outer spaciousness is available right here, right now.  Ask yourself what you can let go of so you can go deeper into the present moment?

Type 8 - "I must be strong and powerful in this unjust world" often leaves others in the wake of the type 8 structure with the experience of being controlled.  Conflict arises.  Taking a breath or pause before pushing forward is one way to work with this autopilot pattern to ease into a more natural way of being with what you really want to unfold.  A more proactive approach is taking time in nature to simply BE.
